What does the HanneHowardFund need?
The Fund uses cash donations to purchase school supplies, sports equipment and clothing locally. These purchases support the local economy, and in particular, the livelihoods of grandmothers and single mothers who make a living by selling goods in the local second hand market. It is for this reason that we prefer to encourage cash donations over the shipment of goods from first world countries. However, we welcome your donation of used clothing, school supplies or books provided you undertake its shipping and cost.
Some goods are extremely expensive to buy locally – particularly anything technology related. Therefore, in-kind donations for the following items would be very helpful:
1. Printers
2. Computer Software: We need educational programs and reference software. Educational games are also welcome (no violent or sexual content).
3. Digital Cameras: We would love digital cameras in order to introduce a photography workshop for our older children who have already demonstrated great aptitude when allowed to run off with Hanne’s camera!
5. Funds for scout uniforms: We currently have 31 invested scouts and only 18 uniforms. We would like to outfit each of our scouts in full uniform ($45 per uniform).
4. Funds for special activities: We would love to provide our children with more opportunities to get involved with art, drama and music classes, workshops and events around Nairobi.
