The HanneHowardFund (HHF) is a hands-on, grassroots organization in Canada that provides full care for over 125 orphaned and vulnerable children in Lenana slum outside Nairobi, Kenya in East Africa.
Founded in 2006 by Hanne Howard, her husband Ted Horton and Marianne Florijn, the HHF provides education, shelter, daily meals and healthcare for Lenana’s neediest children.
Based on the principle of achieving self-reliance, HHF helped establish and actively works with HanneHowardFund – Lenana (HHFL) in Kenya, a community-based organization that is run by the locals. HHFL has its own Board of Directors including a dedicated Chairman. The Fund operates on a piece of rented land in Lenana.
Hanne and Ted spend six months of the year in Nairobi working directly with HHFL to help implement and oversee our programs and ensure the proper and transparent financial management of donated funds. The remainder of the year is spent raising the necessary funds around the world to sustain and develop the HHF programs.

The HanneHowardFund became a Canadian charitable organization in July 2007 (85558 1195 RR0001) and can issue tax receipts in Canada. All administrative expenses (primarily audit and legal) in Canada are paid by the directors of HHF.
Hanne Howard and Ted Horton spend up to six months each year in Nairobi at their own expense. Any of their expenses which are paid by HHF are covered by Hanne’s and Ted’s cash donations to HHF. This policy is designed to ensure that 100% of all donations from other donors are spent directly in Nairobi to further the HHF programs for the benefit of the children.
Marianne Florijn started the Marianne Florijn Fund in Holland and actively fundraises on behalf of HHF.
